South Ossetia, a small mountainous republic, declared its independence from Georgia in 1992. In August 2008, a war broke out between South Ossetia and Georgia, putting the region on the map. It was only after these devastating hostilities that the world learned of South Ossetia, nevertheless, this small country was only recognised by few states. For years, it's been struggling to erase the scars left behind in the aftermath of the conflict.
Today, its citizens are working hard to revive their homeland and show that there's more to the country than just the memories of the war. They take pride in their country's majestic landscapes, remarkable architecture and incredible hospitality. In the meantime, young locals are turning the war-scarred streets into artistic spectacle. Meet a journalist and guide who will show you a different side of Ossetia, rich in nature, history, and warmth.
