This is my first attempt at a "weekly review" of all the retro-gaming-related news that's happened. This week I talk about the Retro Receiver, N64 Blur, Wii HDMI, NES AVS and OSSC:
I recently did an interview with Remute, where he officially announced his upcoming album 'R64' - A complete album with 15 songs released on a Nintendo 64 cartridge, due to be released this March! As with his other "game console releases", R64 generates music using the same methods all original games on the console would have used. In the interview, we discussed how these cartridge-based Remute albums are made, his history and lots more stuff any fan would want to hear! Links to all albums are below and the interview is also available as an audio-only podcast: https://www.retrorgb.com/remute-launches-n64-album-interview.html

Social Media: https://twitter.com/remute / https://www.instagram.com/remuteofficial https://www.facebook.com/remuteofficial
Remute also announced that R64 would be the first of a new album trilogy that would be released throughout 2022!: The second part will be released for the Game Boy Advance and the third on the Sega Dreamcast; This will include a cooperation with developer Duranik of 'Sturmwind' fame! Remute is also planning a re-release of both the Genesis and SNES albums ('Technoptimistic' and 'The Cult Of Remute', respectively) in the coming year - I suggest checking the links above to see if Stone Age Gamer or Bandcamp has any left in stock and if not, hopefully this re-release will have you covered!

Here's an example of the Super Famicom game Kat's Run, using BSNES' "HD Mode 7" rendering in 960p. I was inspired to get this capture by Jimmy Hapa's latest video...and, of course, the awesome new HD rendering in BSNES!!!

I'm trying out the developer Infidelity's latest NES to SNES conversion: Contra. As with his previous conversions, these eliminate slowdown, reduce sprite flicker and allow for SNES-related enhancements that aren’t possible on NES hardware. This is a public release, however please consider supporting on Patreon, to fund further conversions! More info after the links:

This port is actually of the superior Famicom version of Contra, not the NES version. And it uses the Konami VRC2 mapper, which marks the first time Infidelity has ported that chip to the SNES. There's also multiple soundtrack choices available via the new title screen, if you have the ability to play MSU-1 conversions; If not, this port will still work on original hardware, just without the enhanced music.
This SNES version also mapped controls to L, R & X:
L allows player to strafe with gun in last pointed position (will not work aiming up or laying down, since the original game doesn't allow you to run like that).
R allows player to stand still and shoot in all directions (minus down, since you have to be in mid jump to shoot downward)
Players can now hold 2 guns, just like in Contra III; X allows player to cycle between both guns
If you’d like more details as to why these NES to SNES ports are such a big deal, I already covered this in a previous post and discussed it during Weekly Roundup #361 at the 12min mark: https://youtu.be/rviGb9gS_CA?t=721 I didn’t want to repeat everything here, so I thought it was just best to link to the other explanation.
