How to grow plants indoors with Ebb and flow Hydroponics
this video was taken on July 13th 2018. The Hydroponics growing has been going on for 30 days and this is a view of what things look like. There are 17 different plants kale arugula basil some lettuce. Not sure how everything will turn out but I do see Roots forming through the net pots and that's a good sign. I was able to begin harvesting on July 24th and it was a mighty tasty salad indeed along with some backyard tomatoes. I'm learning what not to try to grow next it seems that the red Russian kale struggles quite a bit and let us never does well in too much heat which this environment certainly provides. So for some of the weaker plants I tossed in some arugula and some other greens seed. I also did a little bit of research to understand maybe next time I'm out of invest in some spinach seeds and give that a try. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlfErQZNraQ
The Xylocopa virginica Eastern Carpenter Bee is alive and doing well in my back and front yards. There are lots of them around and they seem to be easily pleased with any of my many flowers. the honey bees...not so much. Although I do have plenty of them bringing out the cucumbers and squash quite successfully this year.
It's nice to have these bees working the bee balm. I got some last year at Lowes or HD and it has grown beautifully. I planted it for the honey bees but if the bumblebees love it then that's just as great.

This is a pretty cool video of the latest top bar hive inspection. I show how I inspect and manage the hive and it is wonderful to see so many active bees raising brood and making a real home sweet home. The other two hives in the yard are Langstroth hives and they are struggling with raising new queens in both. But this hive is the Thrive Hive. It is a kick-ass colony really gearing up for winter.
There is a lot of brood and honey in the hive and the queen seems to be in perfect condition as evidenced by the eggs, larvae, and capped brood. the pattern looks great on all the bars. The work I put into building this masterpiece was well worth the effort.
If you are considering raising honey bees in a top bar hive the resources below will get you on your way. Enjoy.

Take to the road when the call comes. A regular Schwinn Bike helps to get out and about. Exercise comes with a cost and the return on investment can last a lifetime. I have been biking all my life and there is no time like the present to get to it.
Basic equipment includes a helmet, bright color clothing, front and backlights, side mirror, air pump, lock, tire change equipment, first aid, headlight, snacks, tire reflectors, and water. There is a lot of litter on this road.

In this video, I show you how to make fresh pollen patties for your honey bees. This nutritious mixture of fresh pollen, Ener-G-Plus Bee Diet, Honey B Healthy, pure cane sugar, and water helps to keep honey bees fed and encourage brood rearing. (Recipe follows)
The difficulty is that if I give too much then I risk having a big box of bees during a cold month of March and there will be too many bees and not enough food. If I don't give any then I risk the bees treating this warm month of February as the onset of spring and consuming too much of the honey stores and then starving later due to a lack of food.
As with most things in life I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't so I treat what I see and I don't see much pollen being brought into the hive but there is some being gathered. My attempt to aid the bees may succeed if I just add a small patty for now and observe what else occurs as March approaches.
In another video, I will show how easy it is to put on the patty. I opened up the hive on February 24 and added a fondant patty, a grease patty, and some dry sugar. This video was taken on February 24 and it's clear now that March has come in like a lion and stayed that way. Today is March 27 and I'm still wearing long-johns on my bike rides to work. The weather sucks and we even had some snow on the 25th but April should bring the onset of warmer weather to stay. Tony Teolis
Pollen Patty Recipe
2 parts pure cane sugar
1.5 cup dry pollen mix
1/2 cup fresh pollen mix
1 teaspoon HoneyB Healthy
Mix all ingredients well
Pollen and HBH from Brushy Mountain Bee Farm
Roll out small pancake-shaped patties
Place patties between sheets of wax paper
Place about 4-6 patties in a large Ziploc bag and freeze
Tip! make the patties in the early fall and bring one or two in mid to early February. When you see lots of bees taking flights. Don't give more than one at a time! Small hive beetles will come and never leave!
