Lloyd De Jongh interviews Nazeem Holmes of Holmes Kenpo, South Africa.
Lloyd De Jongh is an instructor of the Piper System (The Criminal Simulation System), which mimics the methods and movements of African criminals, especially the ambush, for the benefit of civilians and professionals so that they can be studied and countered. His own counter-ambush system, derived from his knowledge of the Piper System and independent research is the Tripwire System of Close Contact Counter-Combatives.
After 11 years in the Middle East he is based in South Africa and Europe.
Nazeem Holmes is an accomplished competitor in MMA, as well as the highest ranking Kenpoist in Africa. He started learning Kenpo around the time that Jeff Speakman starred in The Perfect Weapon, and now runs a school in Cape Town where he teaches Kenpo and BJJ more than 2 decades later.
I had the opportunity to discuss with him his nuanced redevelopment of Kenpo for the 21st Century practitioner. He expresses his thoughts on the traditional martial arts, his development over the years, and the evolution of Kenpo up until today. Nazeem has made various innovations in Kenpo, allowing for easier technique application, improved customisation to the student and their situation, adapted Kenpo techniques to ring combat and more.
