It is quite common to find demos of surface plots over rectangular domains. However, it is not so common to find such demos over non-rectangular domains. In this video, I demonstrate in a very simple way how to create a surface plot for a function defined over a circular annular domain.
I use Matplotlib, NumPy, and SymPy. The key idea involved is masking available within NumPy.

I discuss with Prof. Anandaroop Bhattacharya some burning issues on the employability of Indian engineering graduates and on the job market. Currently, a faculty member in the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Kharagpur and formerly senior professional at Intel, General Motors, General Electric, Prof. Bhattacharya has had a unique combination of extensive experience in both industry and academia.
We first discuss the statistics available on student enrollment in various engineering courses in India. Then we discuss the important question: What should engineering graduates from non-CS and non-IT departments like Mechanical and Civil do to face the job market where there is a predominance of requirement in Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Machine Learning and so on.

In this video I share what is possibly the best advice I ever received from a senior during my undergraduate days.
The question is how to cope up with the extreme academic load together with extra academic activities that one faces during the short span of a semester.
This is an advice which I followed myself and which I have shared with many of my students here at IIT Kharagpur. And, my hope is that it will be beneficial to all other students too.
This video is part of a YouTube playlist where I give various general advice to students at different levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD):

During JOSAA counselling, students face a number of confusing questions or dilemmas like:
Whether to choose a non-circuital department in a higher ranked institute or a circuital department elsewhere?
Whether to take just any seat in an older IIT or to go to some desirable department elsewhere?
Whether to listen to one's heart's desire or to follow the advice of parents, teachers etc.?
Each of these questions have different answers for different students. In this video I discuss some important points that students should consider so that they can arrive at the answers suitable for themselves.

In this video I discuss the importance of learning how to learn for school students.
This ability to learn by oneself is something more foundational than problem solving. And not developing this ability is probably the biggest missed opportunity of school life.
The discussion is based on cognitive science research and my primary reference is the book "Why don't students like school?" by Prof. Daniel T. Willingham.
00:00 Introduction
02:52 Why do you need to learn how to learn by yourself?
04:42 What can you do to develop this ability?
06:01 Importance of memory
10:15 "The sun rises in the east"
15:36 Difficulty with abstract ideas
16:56 "There is strength in unity"
18:27 "Divide and conquer"
21:40 Importance of practice
24:30 Why practice even when you have developed proficiency?
28:34 "I am 32 and my gf is 13"
31:10 Importance of worked-out examples
