Panelists from UC Berkeley student and Bay Area organizations will discuss their roles and experiences to engage, empower and support local youth through the arts, and will also address the subjects of social activism and the practical issues of running such organizations.
LARA BAGGIO, Cal student and Co-Program Manager of Creative Residencies for Emerging Artists Teaching Empowerment (C.R.E.A.T.E.), a UC Berkeley internship program for undergraduates to contribute their arts-related skills to local after school programs.
LAUREN EALES, Cal Student and President of The Music Connection (TMC), a UC Berkeley organization whose mission is to provide free music tutoring to youth in the Berkeley Unified School District.
NATASHA HUEY, Co-Founder of The Write Home Project, a community organization that facilitates creative and poetic spaces for Berkeley homeless youth while engaging the local community in dialogue about youth homelessness.
DAVE SANDOVAL is Director of the Artists in Education Program at Southern Exposure (SoEx), a San Francisco artist-centered non-profit organization, which strives to experiment, collaborate and educate while providing a resource center and forum for Bay Area and
Tom Pickard, one of the livest truest poets of Great Britain (Allen Ginsberg), is the author of nine books of poetry spanning four decades: from High on the Walls (1968) to The Ballad of Jamie Allan (Flood Editions, 2007).
He has, in addition, made several documentaries, including We Make Ships (1988) about labor history in the north of England and Birmingham is What I Think With (1991) about the poet Roy Fisher.
