My guest is John Cook, a research fellow at Monash University, and a long time force in debunking climate myths. In 2007 he founded the website Skeptical Science, a resource site for responses to climate claims. In 2013, he published a paper on the extent of the scientific consensus on climate change that was hugely influential in how the issue was discussed in the political sphere. And most recently, and what we talk about at some length in this discussion, he was a co-author on a recently published paper that looked at using machine learning to identify and categorise various climate contrarian arguments.

Zion Lights was the Extinction Rebellion spokesperson who was roasted by Andrew Neil for off-the-wall things that XR founders had said that she agreed were wrong but, of course, couldn’t exactly say so on prime time television.
It was one of the most shared videos on twitter at the time. A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that she’d left XR and was promoting nuclear power – to the disgust of at least some of her former colleagues.
I thought this was interesting, and Zion agreed to talk to me about science and evidence, her time at Extinction Rebellion, and why she concluded she had to publicly embrace nuclear as part of the solution.
