France has belatedly lashed out about the Black Panther movie, Wakanda Forever after a journalist tweeted a clip from the movie with the caption: "the evil French mercenaries operating in Mali are dressed as Operation Barkhane soldiers". In the clip, French mercenaries kneel at the feet of Wakanda's Queen Ramonda in the UN, as she condemns their attempts to steal her nation's resources. France's Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, claimed the clip was a "false and misleading" representation of French troops who in 2012 were deployed in their thousands to France's former colonies in Africa's Sahel region. France's initial Operation Serval and later Operation Barkhane were justified under the pretext of bringing "stability" to the region after the 2011 French-led war on Libya unleashed a wave of violence in the wider region. Hebron, the Palestinian city that is home to around 35,000 Palestinians, is partially occupied by up to 800 Israeli settlers who have illegally taken over Palestinian homes in the heart of the city. Settlers there are the most radical of Zionists, inspired by the founding father of religious Zionism, Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak Kook, they believe that the whole of the occupied West Bank is Jewish by divine right. It was in Hebron in 1994 where American-Israeli extremist, Baruch Goldstein, perpetrated the Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre, murdering 29 Palestinians and injuring 125 more. Since then, Israel's occupation and ethnic cleansing in the city has intensified with each passing year. In 1997, apartheid was officially introduced to Hebron when the city was divided into sections H1 and H2 for Israeli settlers and Palestinians respectively. Large parts of the city are off limits to Palestinians. HAPPENING NOW: red. Media is on the ground as protests break out in Berlin against the ban on the international Palestine Congress 2024. Yesterday, riot police stormed the stage shortly after the start of the event, which was supposed to be three days of discussions on anti-imperialist strategies. The situation on the streets became tense, with several arrests. Police deployed vehicles to block the streets, encircling the protest and issuing orders for its cessation. Despite this, the protest persists. Protesters wield shields and chant slogans denouncing Germany's complicity in Israel's genocide. Notably, German arms comprise almost 50% of all Israeli weapon imports. During a press conference held by congress organizers this morning, their legal representatives asserted that the police raid and subsequent ban were unlawful.
