If Iconic Space Photos Had Been Taken With a Smartphone Camera
The amazing images we get from space probes give us close up views of many celestial bodies in the solar system, and it's tempting to imagine that the images represent what a human riding along would see. The truth is the instruments on these spacecraft are like telescopes with a tiny field of view.
After working for weeks in space it's time to rotate out crews in preparation for the arrival of the Kethane crew, this episode sees the debut of the Kerbus, and a highly technical transfer from the Mun Station to The Olympus station without going into a rendezvous orbit.

Last year XKCD tried to answer the question of what would happen if you flew into Jupiter's atmosphere in a nuclear submarine. This was described as 'probably qualify as the most Kerbal vehicle ever built."

Having found a nuclear submarine mod, I decided to try and push the boundaries.

Back in 2006 NASA took the bold step of awarding contracts to private space companies to develop orbital launch vehicles, one of those companies was a company who wanted to revolutionize launch vehicles with a fully reusable rocket designed by a prestigious group of ex NASA rocket scientists who'd pushed the envelope on rocket designs. The other was SpaceX.

The Space Shuttle was "America's Ride To Space" for 3 decades, it launched over 100 times, and yet over that long career it only launched 3 interplanetary missions - Magellan, Galileo and Ulysses. And all of those were launched in 2 years, after that everything the Shuttle carried remained in Earth orbit.
Multiple factors came together to limit this:
- The Shuttle was late and expensive
- The Reagan administration cancelled most interplanetary missions
- Challenger's destruction changed NASA's policy requiring all launches on shuttle.

We knew it was possible, but making it work required some more practice with the EVA control systems. Leaving the ship in orbit, Jebediah Kerman once more lands on Minmus and then one orbit later he relaunches and rendezvous with the capsule in orbit, finally winning his bet with Bob Kerman.
