CRAZY iMac Concepts Apple would NEVER MAKE (But Should!)

This Final Fantasy style turn based RPG has come to Apple Arcade today and I’ve dipped my toes in the water already - it looks amazing and has real feels of Final Fantasy VII right rom the start, looks pretty amazing and I’m definitely going to be diving in more over the weekend. Now while it plays absolutely fine on M1, I think it’s, as most Apple Arcade games are, better suited for touch, so I’ll probably jump in on the iPad. If any of you are giving it a try too I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Crazy iMac Redesigns that Apple probably won’t do.

I’ve become spoiled as you can see from the about of screen behind me, and I have no doubt that Apple won’t got to a 40” display like I did for my Mac mini, but that being said every single rumour and leak imagines the new iMac being a 16:6 or 16:10 display, somewhere between 27” as we have now and 32”, with a number of sources suggesting 30” too. Of course there’s also the smaller version which we’re hearing will be around 24” and pack at least a 4K display too. I’m personally swaying towards the 32” option as that matches with the 6k Pro Display XDR. 5k is cool and all, but its so 2014. Never mind that no-one else caught up yet.

Okay so this was one of my predictions early on, and I’d love Apple to do this still but I’ve not heard anyone else talking about it so I’m not convinced it will be coming, but something akin to Microsoft’s Surface Studio that folds down to around 20-30 degrees from the desktop would be an ideal drawing surface to use with Apple Pencil making the iMac an even more powerful tool for creatives everywhere.

I absolutely love this concept that takes the energy of the original iMac G3 and brings it into… well 2018 actually which is when the concept was created. It also has a pencil but here the keyboard is convertible to a drawing tablet in a more traditional style, meaning a solid state keyboard that only shows keys when you need them, presumably with Haptics.
One major advantage here, the front facing SDcard reader - something Apple should pay attention to… or at least on the side assuming our new iMac has a little more thickness throughout rather than a bulge at the back in the new iteration.

@iCave_Dave : (1/3) For some time now, I have been preparing the equipment for creating my own YouTube videos for my work as an author. If you listen to the creative Youtubers, most of them use relatively expensive camera systems for recording.
I am of the opinion that the iPhone can now achieve very acceptable 4k video recordings, even for professional clips. I am currently working my way through the tutorials of some filmmakers who only work with smartphones. I would be interested in your opinion on the subject.

Apple releases new betas… some features pushed beyond 15.0 release.
Apple’s clearly not quite satisfied with how SharePlay is working, their way to watch with friends via FaceTime on various different video platforms as the feature has been disabled in iOS 15’s 6th beta release. Now its not 100% clear whether this is because of performance or stability issues with the feature or if Apple ran into some kind of licensing issues that are taking a little longer to resolve than expected, as the feature does allow subscribers to SharePlay with friends who aren’t subscribed to some services I believe.
Not only this, but in the same beta, Apple has added back an option for iPhone Safari to have the current or traditional layout, with the address bar way up there at the top like the current iOS 14 layout. Hands up in the comments if you’re already using the public or daredevil developer betas on your phone, and if you liked the low down address bar re-design. I think I like it but I do regularly refresh the page when I’d really just like to start typing in the bar. But to be fair in the past Apple has often released products I didn’t know I wanted, so I guess maybe I just didn’t know I wanted to refresh the page too.
We also got new beta software for the Apple watch, bringing back the ability to have automatically switching watch faces which was disabled in the last beta, but more importantly to give me an incredibly seamless and smooth segue that I doubt you guys will even notice.
Reports say that the Apple Watch series 7 will be getting the redesign we’ve been hoping for, flat sides, face and all, and it lines up almost perfectly with the designs that Jon Prosser and Renders by Ian put out a few months ago. And its basically in line with what I predicted last August, which also happened to be the first time I got in touch with RenderBoi Apple Tomorrow. He made these delightful renders you can see on screen right now.
The latest leaks were actually CAD files, and happily include measurements, so it looks very much like we’ll be keeping the same 40 & 44mm sizes, but with a flatter glass face ands flatter sides, giving a much closer design to the iPad Pro and iPhone 12 design language. These leaks come via 91 Mobiles.
There are also reports that Apple is investigating some new health sensors, based on recent patent filings. The latest describes a sensor that uses a pair of surface electrodes against your wrist to measure how hydrated or dehydrated or… “Unihydrated” you are. Is that a thing?
There’s no real suggestion that this would come in the 2021 Apple Watch, but there have been few other rumours of health sensors that are expected this year, though I’d probably put a body temperature sensor as the simplest to implement.

Apple’s Magic Mouse. It may be the most ridiculed design that they’ve made in the past couple of decades. But it’s actually an incredible product, with a glaring issue. That charge port. But I’ve solved it.
Now I’m one of the lucky ones. I have the first version of the Magic Mouse, and it does not have the same issue as the later versions around charging. In fact, it’s so old school, you just use AA batteries. I personally use rechargeable AAs, so as long as you own 4, getting back up and running is as quick as swapping them out.
And I know, many people find the mouse uncomfortable and un-ergonomic to use, but I personally never had that issue at all. It had issues for SOME uses, which I’ll come to later, but comfort wasn’t it. The features it had though compared to any other mouse on the market though, were unique and I love using it.
Being able to swipe anywhere on the top surface to scroll both vertically or horizontally is great. It’s also ambidextrous as it doesn’t matter where you click. Use one finger for Left (or primary) click and two fingers for right click. Simples.
You can also swipe on the top surface with 2 fingers to go back and forward in the way that you would on a trackpad, or with those little buttons on the side of a mouse.
Of course, every swipe and scroll is buttery smooth. It’s not the clunky windows scrolling of 3 lines of text at a time. It’s precise, and perfect when you’re scrolling through a video timeline from side to side too.
Right now we have iPhone MagSafe and Mac MagSafe. But we also have the Apple Watch charger which is now also charging AirPods Pro, confusingly. So here’s my proposed lineup:

And MagSafe mini could be a win here, for the mouse. I worked with Saad Ism. to design a solution. Let me introduce… MagicMouseSafe
A cutout in the base means you can magnetically attach to MagSafe mini, getting charge from the charger previously known as Apple Watch Charger and you’re still able to use the mouse. There’s a central channel that allows you to route the cable out the front too without the need for ugly visible ports too. But the sensor I hear you cry!
Apple’s MagicMouseSafe features dual sensors for increased tracking reliability. And also symmetry. I thought Jony Ive might be mad if anything wasn’t properly symmetrical. Even if he’s not at Apple any more and he’s designing charity noses now, he’d not like that.
I think we can all agree something designed specifically by Apple is superior to just using USB-C or something, and as long as it’s not a physical port, I’m pretty sure this fully avoids the technicalities of the EU’s tyrannical imposition about everything charging the same way.
