Goodness! 1981/82 weren't great years for games on the #ibmpc but in 1983, addictive #games were shaping up. Loads of classic conversions were being made from the arcades as well as some PC originals. Here are the top ten games of 1983. I also list off some great runners-up. Let me know if I've missed any. I often wonder what it would be like if we bought computers that ran command line interfaces like DOS today, rather than shiny graphical systems like Windows and MacOS. How would the average non computer nerd get along with it? Well, here's a social experiment I performed on my significant other to find out how she fared when given the challenge to find and run a game program in DOS. I foresee laughter and despair ahead!

I was so excited to become the proud owner of a BBC Micro Model B a few weeks back that I didn't bother to check the notoriously 'flaky' RIFA capacitors in the power supply. That and I'm lazy and I'm really bad at electronics. But the inevitable happened, the RIFA caps blew and I had to replace them.
This is a step-by-step video on how to replace the caps for a beginner (by a beginner!).

In 1989, Sierra On-Line (Entertainment) was a decade old. Leisure Suit Larry 3 came out at that time, and in the big box is a booklet which contains a lovely look back at the first decade of Sierra. Join me as I 'peel back the skin' on the box and plunder it's contents to show you this booklet, as well as what you got in a typical big box game around the end of the '80s. You truly got your money's worth! There's also a short commentary on the game, as well as me installing it on a period correct IBM PC, and playing through the first few minutes with Sound Blaster audio.

The wonderful thing about having Patrons and YouTube Memberships on this channel is that I get to talk to my Patrons. Today I chat with one of my Patrons Miguel. Aside from the occasional reference to the 'text only' BBSes and what it was like in 'our day', this chat is very much focused on the current day and what problems the current generation growing up are facing with cyber bullying and the pressures of life in an always-on, high tech world that pushes us for instant gratification and social acceptance. We discuss topics for how these problems might be addressed, as well as some anecdotes of our own youths. Your feedback is always really appreciated and I'd love to know what you thought of this slight deviation from the normal content of the channel. Thanks for watching!
