What's Next for the Toronto Raptors? the Toronto Raptors were eliminated by the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night in their play-in game and they deserved to lose because they played horribly, they blew a 19-point lead, and in the process, they missed 18 free throws in the fourth quarter many attributed that to Demar DeRozan daughter who would scream every time one of the Toronto Raptors' players went up to shoot his free throws and to me that just spoke to how undisciplined and how unprepared the Toronto Raptors were. And so with their playoff exist the offseason will start early for them, and in the offseason, the Raptors are going to need to make major changes as Masai Ujiri indicated. So what are some changes we can see from the Raptors this offseason? In my opinion, there are two major things that need to happen, the first is Nick Nurse, Nick Nurse Has been the Toronto Raptors head coach for some time now and he has done a great job he even managed to win them a championship in 2019. but that was four years ago with a different team, and that team is not the team that he currently has. Nick Nurse is a good coach when he has a fully developed team with players that are ready to win a championship as he had in 2019 when he had Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry, but he is not equipped to be a coach that can develop young talent like the Raptors have. The Raptors have young talent like Scottie Barnes who needs to be developed but Nick Nurse isn't the guy for the Job. One guy who could be the Raptors' coach next year is Ime Udoka who used to coach the Boston Celtics. so coaching needs to change for the Toronto Raptors. the second thing that needs to change is the talent that the Raptors have, I've said it before that the Toronto Raptors can't win a championship with Pascal Siakam being the number one option, why? because he is not a number one guy, he is a number two masquerading as a number two, and what's the difference between a number one and a number two? A number one option can bare the pressure that comes with being a franchise player, he can close out games he is assertive, he isn't passive and to me, while Pascal Siakam is skilled he just isn't at a level in which he impacts a game late in the fourth quarter. I have not watched a game in which I thought the Toronto Raptors won because Pascal Siakam took over the game and assist on or scored a bulk of the Raptors' points. this fact was made even more clear when he played with Kawhi Leonard and you could see the stark difference in how Kawhi would change the outcomes of games through his defense and also scoring when he needed to. It was a mistake for the Warriors to double down on Jordan Poole and give him the $128 million contract that he got last year. because Jordan Poole has regressed tremendously, so why did they give me that amount of money? well, the reason is that last year during Klay Thompson's absence Jordan Poole really became valuable to the Warriors. He was playing at a phenomenal level. Klay Thompson had been out for nearly 2 years and Jordan Poole was picking up the slack that was left behind. and even last year when Steph Curry got a little bit hurt right before the playoffs, it was because of Jordan Poole that the Warriors were able to stay afloat because he was able to play so well that the Warriors could afford to bring Steph Curry off the bench and play him fewer minutes without suffering consequence. and then Last year The Warriors made the finals and to his credit, Jordan Poole was big for the Warriors. so after all of this when it came time to give Him a contract, they forked over a lot of money. But as the 2023 season has gone on it has become clear that Jordan Poole is not a good or smart basketball player. Jordan Poole makes too many unforced mistakes that are uncharacteristic of the Warriors' brand of basketball. He takes too many stupid shots that send steve kerr into a frenzy. Like in game one versus the Lakers this year, the Warriors were positioned to come back and beat the Lakers cause Steph Curry had just made a field goal to put the Warriors within 3 points of the Lakers, and with 10 seconds left in the game and Being Warriors ball, instead of trying to pass the ball to either Steph Curry or Klay Thompson two of the greatest shooters ever, Jordan Poole instead takes a 28-footer shot that he missed leaving time for the Lakers to come back. Stupid mistakes like that.
