My Recent Ebay Purchase Of The Icom IC-PCR100 :)
My recent purchase of the Icom IC-PCR100 wideband computer controlled radio receiver. I paid $75 with free shipping. It can receive from 10 kHz to 1300 MHz. I also had to buy a USB to serial cable as this device has a RS-232 connector. Minimum system requirements: PC with 486x4, Pentium 100 or higher CPU, Windows 95/98, 16 Mb RAM, 3.5 inch floppy drive or CDRom drive lol, 10 Mb HD space and VGA or SVGA display. I plan to use with my older netbook that has Windows XP. The tuner software from Icom is not the best, however I found PCRAnywhere works really well with this device, plus it looks much better. :) It is a Java based software and can run on Windows, Linux, Mac OSX and there is beta version for the Raspberry Pi computer.

Shortwave radio listening DXexpedition to a local park here in Clermont Florida. I went to a local park near where I'm staying for my Florida vacation. I decided this park because my normal listening spot at the house is extremely noisy and also I wanted to get out of the house and do some walking. I normally take a 2 to 3 mile walk every other day while I'm Florida. I used my XHDATA D-808 shortwave radio and the Tecsun shortwave reel antenna hooked up to a small tree near a picnic table. It was some good shortwave receptions. This is my new go to spot for any future shortwave listening dxexpeditions.

First I wanted to explain briefly on how to build the AM indoor loop antenna. I got the idea and was inspired from Crooked Ninja video on using the top of a 5 gallon bucket for the loop design. I also used a food storage container to house the 360 pF variable tuning capacitor. I used 14 gauge speaker wire and wrapped it around the loop 11 times, of course I should of used thinner wire and wound up a few more times, maybe 22 turns around the loop to cover the whole AM band, this loop works well from 900 kHz to 1710 kHz. I will be making another AM loop antenna using thinner magnet wire hopefully soon. :)

The final design of the Hula Hoop Loop antenna, i went with 3 turns of wire to cover most of shortwave, mediumwave and the upper part of longwave, got rid of the balun and pick up loop, made it simple connected to the standoff. It works for me as a wideband receive loop antenna. Thank you Bryan for all the suggestions. :)
My current project is a Copper Active Loop Antenna. I recently bought a copper tubing and low noise amplifier. Hopefully after assembly and testing it may compete with my MFJ-1886 Receive Loop Antenna.
